A Heartfelt Appeal Following Nepal's Gen-Z Movement

A Heartfelt Appeal Following Nepal's Gen-Z Movement

Frontline Nepal is deeply saddened by the loss of life and the damage to government, public and private property that accompanied the recent, largely peaceful movement led by Nepal's new generation (Gen-Z) against poor governance and corruption. We extend our heartfelt condolences to the families of those who lost their lives and wish a speedy recovery to all who were injured.

The country was only just beginning to recover from the earthquake and the COVID-19 pandemic when this disruption struck again — deepening insecurity and uncertainty for large industrialists, medium enterprises and small entrepreneurs alike, all of whom form the backbone of the national economy through tax contributions, job creation and economic reconstruction.

We all understand that violence, vandalism and confrontational politics damage not only peace and social harmony but also economic livelihoods. In such a challenging moment, dialogue, peaceful means and shared responsibility among the state, stakeholders, political parties and civil society are essential to finding a way forward.

We call on government to guarantee the safety of the private sector and entrepreneurs, build policies that strengthen morale, and create an environment where young people can work independently and confidently within Nepal. We urge swift relief and rehabilitation for affected entrepreneurs and businesspeople, and a sustained, enabling environment for enterprise going forward.

For over a decade, mobilizing local and national resources, Frontline Nepal has worked on volunteerism and entrepreneurship promotion, and remains firmly committed to peace promotion, good governance, entrepreneurship development and job creation in the service of a prosperous Nepal.
